- Keep separate profiles for the different printers and materials you actually use.
- Change one print variable at a time when tuning instead of changing everything together.
- Keep a known-good profile as a fallback before experimenting with more aggressive settings.
Useful stuff
Layer height changes both print time and visible detail.
- Temperature and cooling have a major effect on PETG and PLA behaviour.
- Retraction and travel settings are where a lot of stringing problems start.
- First-layer settings matter more than squeezing another few minutes out of a print.

A failed print is still a test result
When a print goes wrong, note what changed. A useful slicer profile comes from knowing which setting caused which result.
